What is a Warrior Bear?
As you continue through this website you will see pictures of military personnel holding bears or you may see pictures of bears lined up. So... What are they? These bears are handmade and sent to military personnel as a small reminder that they are always thought of. With each bear is a personal letter from the founder of this program, a prayer card inside the quilt, and on the back of the quilt is the individual's last name, the year our founder and the individual started talking, and the founder's initials.
Why was this program started?
In life, everyone needs something to hold onto which is exactly why I started The Warrior Bear Program. Personalized bears that can be easily held in the palm of your hand, only 4-5 inches in size. The Warrior Bear Program was created as a way to bring relief to those in uniform. These bears, they are so small but so personal and can make such a difference in these men and women’s lives. These bears can literally be the last thing they have to hold onto in this life. Warrior Bears are hand-made, unique bears sent to our troops whether they are in the field, the hospital, or at home. What most people don’t see is the constant battle many of them face even after their service.
When having a Flashback, a part of having PTSD, it helps to have something to hug, to hold, something to remind you why you’re still holding onto this life. What each bear signifies to their owners is very different but very special as it is a constant reminder that someone out there does still care and still wants them around.
A lot of my contacts either have no family, have been shunned by their families, or feel like no one understands or cares. This program is also used for those men and women who need someone to talk to as a friend, sister, or anything really. I have never once given up on a military member and never will. I have a high success rate of saves from suicides for those who chose to call me. I have over the years helped our service members cope with Survivor's Guilt, Depression, Anxiety, and PTSD. As well as, Ghost Syndrome amongst other struggles they may endure in the service or in every day life. Along the way I introduce many service members to one another when they are readjusting to civilian life, or transferring to a new base as a way to help ease some of the headaches.
This program has had great success since 2010 when it was first created and we hope to continue this path for many years to come!
